After 11 long years without a Serie A title, AC Milan go to Sassuolo on the final day of the campaign knowing they only need a draw to beat rivals Inter to the Scudetto. Stefano Pioli’s men have been excellent in recent weeks, but know they are likely to be tested by a Neroverdi team which have won their last two clashes with the Rossoneri.
Indeed, Sassuolo have won away from home at each of Milan, Inter, and Juventus this season, and although their home record is marginally worse than their form on the road (24 points at home, 26 away), Alessio Dionisi’s men are likely to push their visitors. Both teams have scored in 10 of their last 11 games, and Sassuolo have only been shutout twice in 17 league games since the turn of the year.
Milan, however, have put themselves within touching distance of glory by showing a remarkable ability to grind out results – the Rossoneri have won five consecutive league games, despite either trailing or being level at half-time in each of the last four, and have kept eight clean sheets in their last 10 league games, meaning their rearguard is now the joint-best in Serie A with just 31 goals conceded (alongside Napoli).
