Schalke - Mainz
Possible starting lineups:
Nubel; Kenny, Sane, Stambouli, Oczipka; Caligiuri, McKennie, Mascarell, Harit; Uth, Burgstaller
Zentner; Brosinski, Juste, Niakhate, Caricol; Fernandes, Malong, Latza; Boetius; Szalai, Quaison
Schalke are big favorites, but I think Mainz could get a point. The hosts are in good form, they won the last two matches in Bundesliga. Schalke beat Hertha and Paderborn. However, Mainz also obtained a good result in the last round as they beat Hertha Berlin. So the players confidence is now higher in both squads.
The hosts have no big injury or suspension issues ahead of this match, only new signing Benito Raman is out injured. Mainz, meanwhile, will be without Aaron Seydel, Jean-Philippe Mateta, Stefan Bell and Dong-won Ji.
Last season Schalke won 1:0 at home, but Mainz won 3:0 in the reverse fixture. At the end I will mention that Schalke haven’t won any of their last three games played on a Friday night. Plus, they showed some weaknesses already this season, failing to score in the first two rounds. The inconsistency was a problem last season and it seems it will be a problem again.
