Pospisil - Sousa
Happy to go with Pospisil and I certainly don t mind opposing Sousa as well. Vasek looked impressive these days, coming through qualies over Mannarino, Granollers and beating Schwartzman in R1 after a stunning performance on serve and not only. Pospisil won 100% 1st serve points and also from the baseline he was just too good for Diego, who was always forced to play on the back foot because of Pospisil s dominant and deep strokes (Schwartzman just hit 5 winners). Also Pospisil held 32/32 service games including qualies, there is no doubt he is in his best form since his return on tour three months ago. Shanghai fast conditions suit very well to his game, so I think Vasek is going to move forward considering his next opponent. I don t like Sousa in fast conditions, where his limitations are highlighted even more. Also Joao was 1-5 in Shanghai before his R1 win over Krajinovic two days ago, that was a tough fight with Filip who lost despite being one set up and the better player for most of the match. Pospisil is a dangerous player even for top 20 players when he is fit and confident, his current level seems too strong for Sousa, who I rate weaker than Mannarino, Granollers and Schwartzman... players beaten by Vasek here.Pick: 1
