Schwartzman - Seppi
Schwartzman went the distance in his quarterfinal match, getting the best of Yoshihito Nishioka 6-1, 3-6, 7-6(1). The 19th-ranked Argentine, who earned a first-round bye as the No. 3 seed, preceded that result with a 6-2, 6-3 rout of Guillermo Garcia-Lopez. These are encouraging signs for Schwartzman, who had previously struggled in Australia (a combined 5-7 lifetime in Brisbane, Sydney, and Melbourne).
Friday marks the first-ever meeting between Schwartzman and Seppi, which the Italian set up by beating Jeremy Chardy, Martin Klizan, and Stefanos Tsitsipas. He needed three sets against both Chardy and the top-seeded Tsitsipas, most recently ousting the Greek via a 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 decision. These two veterans feature similar styles of play but Seppi impressed me more than Schwartzman.
